Going by the alter ego name - Predator - the Redragon M612 has been unleashed onto the market with an attractive price tag and alluring performance that matches more expensive mice!At first glance, the Redragon M612 Predator resembles the M686 Vampire Elite mouse but there are some notable differences.
The M612 Predator is a wired mouse, while the M686 Vampire Elite has a detachable input cable that lets you use the mouse as both wireless and wired. The M612 Predator shell is also styled differently with a left side skirt (thumb rest) that is recessed towards the back end of the mouse. There is no right side rest for the pinky finger nor is there a rubber grip; hence the right side panel of the M612 Predator is smooth.
The left side panel of the M612 Predator has been covered with a large piece of ridged rubber trim, which has been placed just below the two side plastic buttons. One of those buttons has a textured finish with tiny bumps that makes it easier to distinguish from the other. There is a third button (fire button) located next to the left click button. There is a total of 11 buttons, all remappable via Redragon's desktop software. The buttons are tactile with a clicky actuation. The scroll wheel has a middle press and rolls smoothly without making any noise.
The M612 comes with a 1.8 meters long cable made of firm/stiff fabric, which feels very durable but creates some resistance when moving the mouse. Using a mouse bungee with a flexible arm helps considerably.
DPI range is from 800 DPI to 8000 DPI and you get five DPI modes to choose from. The default DPI settings are 500 DPI, 1000 DPI, 2000 DPI and 4000 DPI but , you can customize each DPI mode with your specific DPI setting via the software. From the Redragon software, you can also adjust the pointer speed, scrolling speed and polling rate. You can store up to 5 user profiles too.
The Redragon M612 Predator has a good size so, it fits comfortably in the hand thanks to its matte rubbery like coating. It measures 12.5cm long and 7.5cm wide with a 4cm high palm rest. If you have small to medium size hands, the Redragon M612 Predator will fit like a glove as you will be able to rest the entire hand on the mouse. Every style grip works well too, including claw, palm and fingertip grip.
Like most gaming mice, the Redragon M612 Predator integrates RGB lights, which you can disable from the mouse itself, via the dedicated RGB led button located behind the two DPI button changers. The scroll wheel lights up, as well as the logo and the top sides of the mouse via thin led strips that taper towards the back of the mouse. You can change colors and effects (solid color, multi-color wave effect, solid color changing effect and breathing effect) via the RGB button but, for more advance customization like brightness and light speed, you have to use the Redragon software. The Redragon M612 Predator weighs 117 grams (150 grams with the cable) so, some users may consider it heavy when compared to the average weight of a mouse, which is around 100 grams. That said, the M612 Predator is not a heavy mouse at all since there are mice as heavy as 180 grams (e.g. ROG Spatha). In fact, the M612 Predator falls within the ballpark sweet spot of popular gaming mice such as the G502, which weigh 120 grams without the cable and weights.
The Redragon M612 Predator works well for every day use, getting work done and, it's lightweight enough for playing first person shooter (FPS) games. That said, if you want ultra low weight, you should go for a honeycomb mouse such as the Storm M808.
The Redragon M612 Predator has a standard button layout to suit first and third person shooter games; hence there it only has two side buttons. If you play mostly MMO games, you will want a mouse with lost of multiple side buttons like the M913 Impact Elite that you can use to bind skills and/or abilities to and use them more conveniently than using hotkeys on a keyboard (e.g. WASD,Ctrl, Shift).
The Redragon M612 Predator is also compatible with the GA250, which is a neat adapter that lets you connect a keyboard and mouse to a games console (e.g. Xbox).
